The European Commission has confirmed the reappointment of Helena Viñes Fiestas as chair of the European Platform on Sustainable Finance, a central advisory body within the regulatory architecture of the European Union''s sustainable finance. This decision fits into a context of consolidation and adjustment of the European ESG framework.
The Platform assists the Commission in developing and updating sustainable finance policies, in particular on the European taxonomy, environmental criteria and the steering of financial flows towards activities compatible with the EU''s climate objectives. It brings together 28 members and 16 observers from the public and private sectors.
Helena Viñes Fiestas, already involved in the Platform''s work since 2020, has played a key role in several structuring recommendations on the green taxonomy. She is also a commissioner at the Spanish financial markets authority (CNMV), where she works on integrating climate issues into financial supervision.
Her reappointment reflects the European Union''s wish to ensure continuity and credibility in steering sustainable finance, at a time when ESG requirements are subject to growing debate over their effectiveness and clarity for economic actors.
